AdubianewsGhanaian singer Cina Soul has shared her personal experience with the haircut policy in senior high schools, adding her voice to the ongoing debate sparked by a viral video of a Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS student crying after being forced to trim her hair.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the “Ojorley” hitmaker revealed that the policy deeply affected her self-esteem during her school years.
“I remember having to fake illness for two weeks ’cause I didn’t want my mates to laugh at my haircut. And they did. Completely broke my confidence as a child. You’re in class trying to study and there are people at the back busily laughing at your head,” Cina Soul wrote.
Her emotional post has resonated with many social media users who described similar experiences, reigniting calls for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to reconsider the long-standing rule that requires female students to cut their hair.
Cina Soul’s revelation highlights the psychological impact such policies can have on students, especially young girls who struggle with body image and peer perception.
The debate continues to intensify online, with growing support for a review of the haircut rule to promote self-expression and confidence among students.
