Family head testifying in court over Daddy Lumba’s alleged marriage dispute

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the head of the extended family of the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba, has told the court that he only learned of the musician’s alleged customary marriage to Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, through family accounts. He explained that although Odo Broni and her relatives claimed she married the musician, born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, he did not personally witness the ceremony, said to have taken place in 1991.

The marriage claim is now at the center of a legal battle. Akosua Serwaa Fosuh is asking the court to declare her the only surviving wife of the late musician and prevent Priscilla Ofori from presenting herself as his spouse. During cross-examination on November 21, 2025, Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi, questioned Abusuapanin Owusu about his knowledge of the marriage. Owusu admitted that his first contact with Odo Broni came only after Lumba’s passing in 2025, when he visited the musician’s residence.

He told the court that he later learned of an alleged customary marriage said to have taken place in April 2010 at Tantra Hills. According to him, when news of the musician’s death reached him, he sent two nephews to confirm the information. During this period, Priscilla Ofori was too distressed to speak to him directly.

Owusu also admitted that earlier media interviews in which he stated he did not know Priscilla Ofori as Lumba’s wife were based on his long-standing understanding that Akosua Serwaa was the musician’s only recognized wife.

He said he was taken aback when Odo Broni informed him that she had six children with the late musician and that they were customarily married. She even introduced him to the individuals who played roles in contracting the marriage and receiving the head drink.

Furthermore, Owusu revealed that Daddy Lumba’s youngest sister, Faustina Fosuh, who is currently indisposed, confirmed the customary marriage between her late brother and Priscilla Ofori.

Following Lumba’s death, Owusu fulfilled custom by presenting drinks to Akosua Serwaa’s family to formally announce her husband’s passing. However, he later learned from his own family that Akosua Serwaa had returned her head drinks (tsir nsa), a symbolic act that confirmed the dissolution of her marriage to the musician.
