Ghanaian gospel musician Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko is appealing to President John Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for urgent financial assistance, following severe personal and professional setbacks.
The gospel singer, known for his powerful ministry through music, revealed that he is currently struggling with hunger and is unable to care for himself and his children. His financial difficulties began after he publicly supported the NDC by composing a campaign song for the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.
As a native of the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), his open support for the NDC has reportedly led to backlash. Many event organizers and churches in the region have allegedly withdrawn invitations and bookings, affecting his main source of income.
The situation has left the once-thriving gospel minister in distress, facing a significant drop in performances and donations. His appeal is not just a personal cry for help, but a reflection of the growing tension between politics and the gospel music industry in Ghana.
Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko is calling on the NDC leadership to remember his contributions and provide support during this difficult time. His story highlights the risks public figures face when aligning with political parties in a highly polarized environment.
