Firefighters battle flames at Anomangye Market in Suame after a late-night blaze destroyed several shops.

A raging fire has destroyed several shops at the Anomangye Market in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, leaving traders in despair. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, and caused widespread damage.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began around 10:30 p.m., allegedly from a charcoal shop, before spreading quickly to other parts of the market. Within a short period, the flames engulfed multiple shops, wiping out goods such as provisions and vehicle spare parts.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were deployed to the scene to combat the blaze. Their immediate priority was to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading further to nearby sections of the market.

Despite the swift response, the destruction left many traders in shock, as properties and investments worth thousands of cedis went up in flames. The losses are expected to have a significant impact on livelihoods in the area.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, while authorities work with victims to assess the full extent of the damage.
