A twelve-room storey building together with 10 shops at the Timber Market near Amamomo in Accra was razed down by fire today.
Residents in the area told the press that the fire started at about 9 am on Monday May 10,2021 and it took the fire service over an hour to show up.
Videos making round on social media shows the fire spreading fast as most of the structures at the timber market was made of wood. Residents looked on helplessly as their properties running into millions of Cedis burn down.
According to a reports shared on social media by an eye witness, the Ghana Fire Service arrived at the scene with empty tanks and no water to quench the fire.

An eyewitness was quoted to have told Citinews that, “Part of the structure is made of concrete blocks, but the part at the top is wooden. It took the Fire service two hours to get here. I called their contact lines many times but no one answered”
