The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched coordinated joint operations across Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo regions targeting individuals linked to recent attacks on NAIMOS officials and other state personnel.
The dawn operations, which began on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, are taking place in Dadwene and Anwona (Ashanti), Ehi (Volta), and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani (Ahafo).
According to a joint statement by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, the operations are “targeted and intelligence-led”, aimed at arresting those involved in attacks on NAIMOS officials, police officers, EPA staff, and journalists.
The statement warned that anyone attempting to obstruct law enforcement in ongoing anti-galamsey operations would “face the full force of the law.” Authorities also assured residents that safety measures have been put in place to protect law-abiding citizens and urged them to remain calm and continue their daily activities.
Civil society organisations, the media, and concerned individuals who condemned the recent attacks were commended, with officials describing such support as critical to the success of the national anti-galamsey campaign.
Illegal mining, or galamsey, remains one of Ghana’s biggest environmental and security challenges, with clashes frequently occurring between government task forces and illegal miners. These latest operations reinforce the government’s commitment to protecting law enforcement personnel and sustaining the fight against illegal mining.
