GES condemns assault on Kade SHTS teacher by former students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the assault on a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School, assuring the public that those responsible will face full punitive action.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 10, and signed by Daniel Fenyí, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service confirmed that it had seen a viral social media video showing Mr Michael Quayson, a teacher at the school, being attacked by a group of former students.

GES said the Management immediately requested and received an early report on the incident, which revealed that the assault occurred on 5 October 2025.

According to the statement, the past students allegedly attacked the teacher because he was strict during the invigilation of the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) WASSCE 2025 examination.

However, GES noted that neither the school authorities nor its own Management were informed when the incident occurred.

“The issue was not reported to the school authority nor GES Management until the video recording of the assault circulated on social media,” the statement said. It added that Management has since taken over the matter and that investigations are currently ongoing.

GES condemned the assault as unacceptable, unlawful and a direct affront to the dignity of the teaching profession.

“Management condemns the assault in the strongest terms as such behaviour is unacceptable, unlawful, and a direct affront to the dignity of the teaching profession,” the statement emphasized.

The Service assured the public that the perpetrators will face the full consequences of their actions.

“The students shall face the appropriate sanctions provided by law and GES regulations to ensure justice is duly served,” it stated.

GES also reassured teachers nationwide of its commitment to ensuring their safety, protection, and support, especially during examinations where discipline and integrity are critical.

“Management assures all teachers nationwide of our full support in instilling discipline and ensuring examination integrity,” it said.

GES further urged students across the country to remain disciplined and respectful toward school authorities.

“We urge all students to uphold discipline and respect authority,” the statement added.

The release was signed by Daniel Fenyí, Head of Public Relations, GES.
