GES Warns 2025 WASSCE Candidates: Offenders Face 12–15 Years in Jail

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to 2025 WASSCE candidates, cautioning that any candidate caught engaging in examination malpractice could face jail terms ranging from 12 to 15 years. Additionally, the results of offenders’ risk being cancelled or withheld.

The warning was delivered by Nana Kumi Agyemang, the Public Relations Officer of the Dormaa Central Municipal Education Directorate, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region.

According to him, a total of 2,179 candidates, 1,075 males and 1,104 females, from four senior high schools are currently sitting for the examinations in the municipality. The schools include Christ Apostolic Church SHS, Dormaa SHS, Adehyeman SHS, and Salvation Army SHS. A monitoring team has been set up to ensure smooth supervision at the examination centres.

Mr. Agyemang explained that security has been tightened, with police officers deployed to maintain law and order. He added that mobile phones have been banned from the exam halls, with supervisors and invigilators strictly enforcing the directive. He further revealed that candidates are being closely monitored to prevent the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools during the exams.

So far, the examinations have been progressing without major challenges. Nana Agyemang urged candidates to avoid bringing prohibited materials into the halls, advising them instead to remain confident and composed while answering their papers.

He also highlighted the impressive number of female candidates this year, attributing the increase to government initiatives such as the Free SHS policy and the distribution of free sanitary pads.

He noted that sustained education and counselling by girl-child education coordinators had also played a significant role in encouraging more females to sit for the 2025 WASSCE in the municipality.
