AdubianewsIn a landmark move to strengthen the voice of African cocoa farmers, Ghana has officially launched the Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA) Ghana Chapter. The event, held on May 21, 2025, at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra, was themed “One Voice, One Future.”
The launch brought together a broad coalition of stakeholders — including cocoa farmers, government officials, agricultural experts, and advocacy groups — with the shared goal of transforming the cocoa industry to be more inclusive, sustainable, and economically viable for the smallholder farmers who form its backbone.
COFAAA seeks to provide a structured platform that empowers cocoa farmers to advocate for their interests, share knowledge, and collaborate on solutions to shared challenges. With Ghana being one of the largest cocoa producers in the world, the establishment of the Ghana Chapter represents a strategic step toward building a unified African front that can influence policy, attract investment, and ensure farmers receive a fair share of global cocoa revenue.
One of the key highlights of the event was the emphasis on sustainability and climate resilience. Stakeholders at the launch discussed strategies to promote environmentally responsible farming practices, combat the effects of climate change, and transition cocoa farming into a more profitable and sustainable sector.
The Alliance also aims to address long-standing concerns around market access and price volatility. Cocoa farmers have historically been vulnerable to fluctuating global prices, often earning meager incomes despite the high demand for cocoa products. COFAAA will work to ensure farmers have improved access to international markets and advocate for policies that ensure fair pricing structures.
By launching the Ghana Chapter, the country joins a broader continental effort to form a strong, united front that can better engage with policymakers, cocoa buyers, and international development agencies. This will help shape the future of cocoa farming across Africa by influencing trade policies, investment decisions, and sustainability programs.
The launch of the Cocoa Farmers Alliance Africa Ghana Chapter is a bold and timely initiative that places farmers at the center of the cocoa value chain. It reflects Ghana’s commitment to empowering its farmers and setting a new standard for sustainable, inclusive cocoa production across the continent.
