Ghana Parliament has approved a combined GH¢34.9 billion for five major ministries as part of the 2026 national budget, setting the stage for government spending in the upcoming fiscal year. The approvals were made on the first day of the budget consideration process following committee reviews for the Ministries of Roads and Highways, Transport, Health, Works and Housing, and Gender, Children and Social Protection.
The Ministry of Health secured the largest allocation of the day with GH¢22.8 billion. A significant portion—GH¢16.24 billion—is dedicated to compensation for employees, while GH¢4.51 billion will support goods and services, and an additional GH¢2.04 billion designated for capital expenditure.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways received GH¢5.37 billion, with over GH¢5.17 billion earmarked for capital projects. The Gender Ministry followed with GH¢3.26 billion, the Transport Ministry with GH¢1.5 billion, and the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources with GH¢1.46 billion.
However, the Ministry of Finance noted that the actual release of funds will depend on the government’s revenue performance in 2026, meaning some ministries may not receive their full allocation.
More committees are expected to present their reports in the coming days as Parliament continues its budget approval process.
