AdubianewsSamuel Harrison Cudjoe, Programme Officer at the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), has called on every Ghanaian to play a proactive role in the fight against corruption by actively participating in the recovery of stolen public assets.
He made the call during an interview on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show, stressing that asset recovery is a shared national responsibility, not just a task for government institutions.
According to Mr. Cudjoe, it is vital for citizens to understand that recovered assets belong to them. “Citizens must care about asset recovery because the assets that are recovered belong to them,” he emphasized. He noted that recovered funds could be used to improve public services, while in some cases, individuals may be able to reclaim property wrongfully taken from them.
He went on to explain that corruption and crime allow offenders to enjoy unjust benefits, both material and non-material, at the expense of society. “If someone engages in crime, corruption, or any other illegal activity, they gain some form of tangible and intangible benefit. We must reclaim these benefits for the good of the country,” Mr. Cudjoe stated.
The GACC officer believes that a national sense of ownership and urgency is needed to combat corruption effectively. Asset recovery, he said, is one of the most impactful ways citizens can help build a transparent and accountable society. Recovered assets can help fund social programs, infrastructure, and other national development initiatives.
Mr. Cudjoe concluded by urging Ghanaians to see asset recovery as their personal fight and not merely a political or institutional issue. He believes only through active civic engagement can Ghana make meaningful progress in its fight against corruption and achieve sustainable development.
