AdubianewsGhanaian Gospel musician Jack Alolome has opened up about his decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC), revealing that a GH₵20,000 performance fee offered by the party in 2016 influenced his political allegiance.
Though born into a family aligned with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alolome shared that a negative experience with the NPP caused him to reconsider his loyalty.
During the 2016 election season, he was invited by a high-ranking NDC official to perform at a campaign event. He honored the invitation, performed for only five minutes, and returned to his hotel shortly after.
Later that day, campaign officials visited him at the hotel to express their appreciation and handed him a cash reward of GH₵20,000 for his brief performance. The gesture, coupled with how respectfully he was treated, played a significant role in his decision to officially join the NDC.
Following the event, Alolome encouraged his friends and associates to also support the NDC. He acknowledged that some may accuse him of switching parties for financial gain, but he defended his choice by pointing out that political support often involves considerations of personal benefit.
His revelation adds to ongoing conversations about the influence of political patronage in Ghana’s creative industry.
