Ghana’s telecommunications sector is set to experience a significant boost in data accessibility as the Minister of Communications, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, announced an across-the-board increase in data bundle allocations by all major telecom operators, effective July 1, 2025.

This initiative aims to improve internet affordability, enhance digital inclusion, and provide better value for Ghanaian consumers.

During a press conference held in Accra, Minister Sam George revealed that these improvements are the result of successful negotiations and ongoing dialogue with the country’s leading network providers. He emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a more connected Ghana by working collaboratively with industry players to expand digital access.

Details of the Data Bundle Increases in Ghana

The key changes announced include:

  • AirtelTigo Ghana (AT Ghana):
  • 10% increase across all data bundles
  • The GH₵400 data plan has been upgraded from 195GB to 236GB, offering more data for consumers at the same price point

  • Telecel Ghana:
  • 10% increase across all data bundles
  • The GH₵400 data plan now provides 250GB, up from 90GB, significantly enhancing data volume

  • MTN Ghana:
  • 15% increase across all data packages.
  • The reintroduction of the GH₵399 bundle offering 214GB of data (previously replaced by a GH₵350 plan with just 92.88GB), providing consumers with more data at an affordable rate

Addressing concerns about the financial burden on telecom operators, the Minister acknowledged that these enhancements come with costs but highlighted the benefits for consumers and the broader goal of digital development:

“I am aware these increases will come at considerable cost to the network operators,” he stated. “However, I am pleased that our engagements and consultations are bearing fruit for the Ghanaian people.”

He also expressed appreciation to the CEOs of telecom companies for their cooperation and commitment to improving Ghana’s digital infrastructure. This collaboration underscores the government’s efforts to strengthen partnerships within the telecommunications industry.

These data bundle increases form part of Ghana’s strategic plan to promote digital inclusivity, improve internet penetration, and provide more value for money in the telecom market. The government envisions a future where digital services are accessible and affordable for all Ghanaians, supporting economic growth, education, and social connectivity.

With these developments, Ghana is making strides toward a more digitally empowered society, ensuring that its citizens can enjoy faster, more affordable internet services as part of the nation’s broader digital transformation agenda.
