Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the legacy of the late highlife icon, Daddy Lumba, is fittingly honoured.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Monday, August 25, during a visit by the musician’s family to formally announce his passing, Mr Debrah said Daddy Lumba’s remarkable contribution to Ghana’s music and culture makes it impossible for the nation to overlook his memory.
“We can’t say we won’t honour him, especially considering how well he honoured Ghana with his music,” he stressed, assuring the family that the government would play its full role in celebrating his life and works.
The Chief of Staff described the late artiste, born Charles Kojo Fosu, as a national treasure whose timeless songs defined generations and touched every aspect of Ghanaian life. “Whether people were happy or sad, his music brought comfort and joy. His legacy is one that must not be forgotten,” he added.
He further assured that the government would extend the necessary state support as the family prepares for the funeral of the legendary musician, who reportedly passed away in July at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra.
Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians, produced more than 30 albums and left behind classics that continue to inspire and resonate far beyond Ghana’s borders. His enduring impact, Mr Debrah emphasised, will be celebrated as part of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
