AdubianewsThe Ghanaian government is set to make a formal announcement today, September 4, 2025, in its intensifying standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv.
The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation has warned that MultiChoice could face suspension of its operations by September 6 if the company does not reduce subscription fees.
Regulators have already imposed penalties of GHC10,000 per day on MultiChoice for failing to provide requested pricing data, with fines now exceeding GHC150,000.
Communications Minister Samuel George stated that while the government is resolute, dialogue remains open.
“Last night, a team from MultiChoice reached out and made some proposals. We’ve asked for further concessions to be made. I’ve given them up to close of business today,” he disclosed.
He added that an official declaration will be issued later in the day, noting that there are “strong indications that an amicable resolution could be reached before the deadline.”
The dispute has drawn widespread attention from subscribers and industry analysts who have long criticized the high cost of pay-TV services in Ghana.
If negotiations fail, the government could take the unprecedented step of suspending MultiChoice’s operations, a move that would disrupt millions of households nationwide.
