Reports say that some illegal miners at Anyinam in the Eastern Region had taken over mining concession at River Birim belonging to one Ibrahim Mohammed.
Attempts by the management of the mining company to resist these illegal miners proved futile.

Miners at the site say that a man called Tettey arrived shortly after the security operatives had left with the leader of the illegal miners threatening to kill those present.
A heated argument between Tettey and the miners led to him drawing a pump-action gun from his gun to deliver two warning shots.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command DSP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the incident and said that calm has been restored.
