Ghanaian musician and former SRC President of the University of Ghana, Guru, has revisited a painful experience from his time in student leadership, revealing how some individuals allegedly plotted to sabotage an SRC artistes’ event he organized.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker expressed deep frustration as he recalled the ordeal. He alleged that certain students intentionally worked behind the scenes to undermine his efforts and tarnish his credibility as a leader.
According to Guru, these students contacted musicians who had initially agreed to perform at the show for free, claiming that he had already received funds for the event. This false information, he said, created confusion and mistrust between him and the artistes.
He further alleged that the same group reached out to the event organizer, cautioning him to withdraw his support. “They told the organizer that I had taken money and that he shouldn’t trust me,” Guru lamented, adding that the incident nearly ruined the event.
The rapper described the experience as one of his most disappointing moments as SRC President, emphasizing how internal politics and jealousy can cripple good intentions. He explained that his goal was to use the event to promote creativity and unity among students, but instead, it became a target for sabotage.
Guru concluded by urging young leaders to remain focused and resilient, even when faced with betrayal. He noted that leadership often comes with challenges and envy, but stressed that genuine service and integrity always speak louder than sabotage.
