Ghanaian socialite and musician Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Reall, is scheduled for release from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia today, after serving a one-year prison sentence in the United States.

This update was confirmed by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons’ inmate locator. The release marks the end of her sentence following a conviction on charges of conspiracy to receive stolen money as part of a West Africa-based romance scam ring.

Background to the Case

Hajia4Reall was sentenced on June 28, 2024, to 12 months and one day in prison after pleading guilty to receiving money fraudulently obtained from over 40 victims in the United States. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the victims, many of them elderly, were tricked into sending funds under false pretenses such as gold transport, fake FBI investigations, or fictitious relationships.

In addition to the prison term, she was ordered to:

  • Forfeit $216,475
  • Pay restitution of $1,387,458
  • Serve three years of supervised release

Following her release, Hajia4Reall is expected to self-deport to Ghana. Her legal team had arranged for this repatriation during the sentencing process and requested the return of her passport to facilitate her immediate departure from the United States.
