AdubianewsTo improve access to essential health resources, Ghana’s Ministry of Health has introduced a Donation Desk to support individuals and organisations wishing to donate medical equipment and materials from outside the country.
The goal is to simplify donation procedures and allow the Ministry to pursue tax exemptions for such items, ensuring they benefit the health sector without unnecessary delays or financial barriers.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh made the announcement in Accra, explaining that the desk is part of the government’s effort to encourage public-private collaboration in strengthening healthcare delivery.
Interested donors have been asked to contact the desk via the official hotline 0204611611, where they can receive assistance and guidance on the process.
At the same briefing, the Minister addressed concerns over a recent COVID-19 outbreak at the University of Ghana, confirming 107 Omicron variant cases from a pool of 316 suspected infections.
He assured the public that while the virus spreads quickly, no deaths or hospitalisations have been recorded, and the situation remains under control due to existing surveillance systems.
The Ministry traced the surge to recent Hall Week celebrations and poor adherence to safety protocols. In response, health teams are conducting sensitisation campaigns across the campus, with support from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the School of Public Health, and the University Health Directorate to prevent further spread and reinforce safety awareness.
