Ghanaian social media personality and political critic, Twene Jonas, has reignited political discourse in Ghana by calling on some media personalities to hold the new government to the same standard of criticism as the previous one.
In a recent video, Jonas emphasized the need for consistent accountability, urging media houses and some personalities not to let political loyalty prevent them from demanding transparency and good governance from current leaders.
He made this statement while backlashing the likes of Captain Smart of Onua TV and the entire Media Generale for their failure to scrutinize the ruling NDC government just as they did to the previous NPP administration.
Twene Jonas further alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama is paying certain media personalities to defend his leadership and downplay issues of poor governance.
He also accused some public officials linked to Mahama’s camp of using public funds to finance lavish lifestyles, despite widespread economic challenges facing ordinary Ghanaians. His remarks have reignited public debate on political accountability, media bias, and the misuse of taxpayer resources.
He didn’t spare outspoken media figures either, claiming that the likes of Captain Smart are only thinking of their stomachs and not the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
According to Twene Jonas, some of these media personalities have abandoned their watchdog role and are now more concerned with personal gain than speaking truth to power. His statement has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many questioning the integrity of Ghana’s media landscape and the role of journalists in holding political leaders accountable.
