“I Chose Love Over Logic, Now My Child Suffers”: Woman Regrets Skipping Genotype Test Before Marriage

A Ghanaian woman has opened up about a painful chapter in her life, sharing how choosing love over medical advice led to a lifetime of regret.

In a moving personal story, she confessed that her decision to ignore warnings about genotype compatibility before marriage has deeply affected her family.

Despite repeated advice from doctors and concerned friends, she never took the genotype test with her partner. She assumed, wrongly, that her husband had the “AA” genotype, believing they were safe from any complications.

That assumption, however, resulted in their first child being born with sickle cell disease, a condition that has left the entire family in distress and emotional agony.

Now living through the harsh reality of her choice, she admits the burden has strained their marriage and dimmed the love they once celebrated. With heartfelt sincerity, she is urging young couples to learn from her story and prioritize genotype testing before tying the knot, so they don’t have to face the kind of heartbreak and hardship she now endures.
