General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has justified the decision by his party to boycott an IPAC meeting on Wednesday meant to address issues concerning compilation of a new electoral roll ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The meeting was organised by the Electoral Commission with inspiration from President Akufo-Addo’s directive allowing gatherings for events such as private funerals of not more than 25 people.
But, responding to questions on the subject in an interview granted to Citi TV monitored by ABC News, Mr. Asiedu Nketia argued that IPAC meetings are not private burials. Hence, the basis for the meeting is wrong.
”It is private funeral. We are not going to IPAC to bury anybody,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia said.
Six opposition parties forming the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters’ Register (IPRAN) yesterday boycotted an IPAC meeting organised by the Electoral Commission to address the various issues plaguing the compilation of a new electoral roll ahead of the December polls.
They include the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), People’s National Convention (PNC), All People’s Congress ((APC), United Front Party (UFP), Eagle Party (EP), and the United Progressive Party (UPP).
The action by the parties was to reinforce their longstanding position that the decision to compile a new voters’ register is illegitimate grounds and should, therefore, be discarded.
For them, they cannot partake in and endorse an exercise that has been carefully tailored to rig the upcoming general elections in favour of the sitting President and his party.
