AdubianewsIn Agomanya, Eastern Region, a group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) veterans, supporters, and the family of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings gathered to solemnly mark the 46th anniversary of Ghana’s June 4 Uprising.
The ceremony went ahead in apparent sincere devotion to the values of social fairness, accountability, and probity that served as the foundation for the 1979 revolution, despite sporadic drizzles.
The children of Rawlings, including Kimathi Rawlings and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, participated in the ceremony, which was presided over by NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia. The eternal flame, which represents the spirit of the rebellion, was started by them all together.
A turning point in Ghana’s history, the June 4 Uprising, headed by Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings at the time, overthrew the Supreme Military Council and paved the way for the return of civilian governance. The yearly celebration acts as a reminder of the value of moral leadership and civic duty.
NDC officials, party members, and people came together to consider the impact of the revolution and to reaffirm their dedication to its tenets during the Agomanya event. In remembrance of those who died during the rebellion, the service included speeches, cultural acts, and the laying of wreaths.
The appeal to preserve the principles of the June 4 Uprising is still relevant today as the country considers this momentous period in its history and serves as a guide for present and future generations.
