The Kasoa–Winneba stretch of the coastal highway is now projected for completion by June 2026, according to Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza. Providing an update on ongoing infrastructure projects, the Minister stated on Channel One TV that the contractor had assured him the road would be ready by next year.
Agbodza also noted that the Winneba–Mankessim portion of the project has a two-year contract duration but expressed confidence that it would be completed ahead of its 2027 deadline.
He stressed that once all sections are finished, the entire coastal route from Kasoa to Takoradi will be fully dualised, greatly improving connectivity between the Greater Accra and Central Regions.
The broader Kasoa–Winneba–Mankessim development involves three different contractors, while the Cape Coast–Takoradi stretch is being handled separately. Agbodza, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, explained that the Cape Coast–Takoradi road is a major link between the two regions, with substantial work underway within the Central Region itself.
He highlighted that a brand-new road is being constructed alongside the existing one between Winneba and Mankessim to achieve full dualisation. The Winneba interchange, initially not part of the project, has now been added to enhance traffic flow.
Addressing recent congestion on the Kasoa–Winneba corridor, the Minister admitted that early construction planning contributed to traffic challenges. He explained that working simultaneously on both the main carriageway and the expansion created avoidable bottlenecks. However, he emphasised that the completed dual carriageway will significantly ease traffic, facilitate trade, and improve overall travel along the coastal highway.
