The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Kofi Adams, who has fled from his own suit against ABC NEWS has been ordered by the Court to fork out Ghc40, 000 as cost for embarking on that aborted legal tussel.

Kofi Adams in a shameful manner, made a dramatic U-turn by a officially informing an Accra High Court that he had discontinued a suit of defamation he filed against ABCNews and its Managing Editor, Gordon Asare-Bediako.

Not enthused with the turn of events, Lawyers for ABC NEWS prayed the Court to award cost to Kofi Adams for wasting the time of both the Court and Management of ABC News.

On Tuesday 1st June 2021, Her Ladyship Justice Rebecca Sittie agreed and awarded the cost of GHC40,000 to the NDC Legislator whose Lawyers were not in Court.

“We are going to enter Cost after which we would move into Execution of the decision of the Court” one of the Lawyers for ABC News told a section of the media.

In a letter sighted by ABCNews, dated April 22, 2021, the NDC MP dropped his defamation charges against the newspaper and its editor, Gordon Asare-Bediako.

‘Please take note that the Plaintiff has this day wholly discontinued the instant action against the defendants herein’ the letter stated.

It would be recalled that ABCNews on 27th June, 2019, published a story with the headline “Kofi Adams in Car Fraud Case…State V8 Vehicle Impounded”

This story detailed Mr. Adams having appropriated for himself a car which belonged to the State.

Infuriated by the publication, Mr. Adams went to court for defamation against the newspaper and the managing editor.

The latest development which was not prompted by ABCNews or its Managing Editor comes as shocking and, thereby giving credence to the original story on the stolen vehicle.

Published below is the original story.

KOFI ADAMS IN CAR FRAUD CASE
… State V8 Vehicle Impounded

Kofi Adams, former National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), is under Police investigation for embossing a wrong registration number plate on an alleged State owned Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicle.

The registration number GE 5215-19 which is being used on the V8, actually is for a Toyota Corolla saloon car(owner’s name withheld)

The V8, which is alleged to belong to the State, is being used for car rental services by Kofi Adams for which reason ABC has learnt he is under investigations.

ABC has sighted the Impounded vehicle at the premises of the Airport Police Station. This paper learnt that the driver of the vehicle was confronted by a Presidential Staffer after which the car was parked at the Police Station.

The V8 is said to belong to the office of the President and arrived in November 2016.

According to a Police Source, the case may be processed for court next week.

This is not the first time Kofi Adams is being embroiled in a controversy over alleged stolen State vehicles.

Kofi Adams was not available for comment as ABC News could not get him for his reaction on his cell phone.

It would be recalled that in February 2017, five vehicles —two Toyota Land Cruiser V8s and three Nissan Hard Body pick-ups — were seized from the Kofi Adam’s house in Tema following allegations that some officials of the immediate past NDC government had kept state vehicles.

They were seized by a taskforce apparently set up by the government to retrieve all of such vehicles which were thought to have been illegally taken away by officials of the previous administration.

Reports confirmed by Mr Adams indicated that the vehicles were seized while he had travelled to the United Arab Emirates.

He said six men claiming to be National Security officials came to his house before he travelled but he managed to stop them from taking the vehicles.

Mr Adams added that other officials returned to his house after he had travelled and forcibly took the vehicles away after threatening a young man in his house.
