The Special Advisor to the President on Health, Dr. Nsiah Asare, says Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold will be given the greenlight to train as they prepare to participate in Africa if the start of the football season is prolonged.
The two giants are expected to represent Ghana in next season’s Africa Club Competitions following a decision by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Recently the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave the greenlight for the female U-17 and U-20 to return to training as they prepare for their respective international assignment.
But the Dr. Nsiah Asare says how the national teams were handled would be applied to Kotoko and Ashantigold if need be.
“The African club competition is a continental competition, how we handle the national teams situation now will be a basis for government in deciding the fate of Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold whether to allow them train or not.
“When the time approaches and the GFA, Sports Ministry and National Sports Authority present a legitimate proposal, precautions and protocols on the safety mechanisms, we will allow them to play to bring happiness back to the fans.
“The health experts will look into the health risks and if its low,we will allow them. The countries our clubs will go to will also influence our decision, some countries do not even conduct Covid-19 test.
“They will have to go through the same process the national teams are going through now,” he told Kumasi FM monitored by ghanacrusader
