Tension gripped parts of Kumasi when a man who violated the directive on night movement was chased by traditional executioners during the burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The incident occurred after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, ordered all residents of Kumasi and surrounding areas to remain indoors throughout the night as a mark of respect for the departed Queen Mother. The solemn directive formed part of the sacred burial customs of the Ashanti Kingdom, aimed at ensuring dignity, safety, and order during the royal funeral.

According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man was spotted roaming the streets despite the restrictions. Traditional executioners, tasked with enforcing the Asantehene’s order, quickly gave him a surprise chase. The man was seen running helter-skelter as the crowd watched in shock.

The Otumfuo’s directive was clear: no one was to step out at night until the burial rituals were completed. Security and traditional task forces were deployed across Kumasi to ensure full compliance.

The late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away in November 2023, is being laid to rest with elaborate rites steeped in tradition. The Asantehene emphasized that strict adherence to cultural practices was essential in honoring her memory.

The man’s ordeal has since served as a warning to residents about the seriousness of the restrictions and the cultural importance of respecting the royal burial rites.
