It has been confirmed that multi-platinum award-winning hip hop rapper DMX born Earl Simmons is dead at the age of 50 in White Plains, N.Y.
The rapper has been on life support since last Friday following a heart attack from an overdose. On April 2, Mr. Simmons had a heart attack at his home in White Plains. In the days that followed, representatives for the rapper said he was in a coma and on life support “in a vegetative state.”
His family announced the death in a statement saying,
“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” the Simmons family said. “He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him.”
Born Earl Simmons, DMX had a string of No. 1 hit albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
