Kumawood actor Lil Win has expressed disappointment in the National Film Authority (NFA) for conducting its recent National Film Dialogue entirely in English.
The actor argued that the decision excluded many stakeholders who are not fluent in English, preventing them from making meaningful contributions to the discussions.
According to Lil Win, the dialogue should have been structured in two sessions, one in a local dialect and the other in English, to ensure inclusivity and allow all participants to actively engage.
He noted that Ghana’s film industry is made up of diverse players, many of whom work primarily in local language productions, and therefore, excluding them from such a crucial conversation undermines the purpose of the event.
Lil Win’s comments have reignited debates about language use in Ghana’s creative sector, with some industry watchers calling for a more inclusive approach to national dialogues that reflect the country’s cultural identity.
