President John Dramani Mahama has firmly dismissed long-standing rumours suggesting he owns Chain Homes, one of Ghana’s well-known residential estates, describing the claims as completely unfounded.
Addressing residents at a community gathering in the estate on Monday, December 22, 2025, President Mahama explained how he and his family came to live in the neighbourhood, stressing that their presence had nothing to do with ownership.
According to him, the family was initially searching for a house to rent but struggled to secure one. Eventually, they were directed to Chain Homes, where a private individual had constructed a house and entrusted it to the estate’s managers for rental purposes.
“While we were looking for a place to rent, we didn’t get one, and finally they said there is a place at Chain Homes. Somebody had built a house in the corner and given it to Chain Homes to rent. That’s how we came to this neighbourhood,” he explained.
Reacting to the persistent speculation surrounding his alleged ownership of the estate, President Mahama responded with sarcasm, joking that if the claims were true, residents had unknowingly bought the houses illegally.
“Indeed, they believed the estate belongs to me. So, all of you who bought these houses bought them illegally because you should have paid me money,” he remarked.
He went on to add humorously, “If you paid your money to Addai and Co., please ask for a refund and bring my money.”
The President’s remarks were aimed at putting the rumours to rest and making it clear that living in the estate does not translate into ownership. He emphasised that claims linking him to the ownership of Chain Homes are entirely false and misleading.
