AdubianewsPresident John Dramani Mahama has declared his intent to take firm legal action against road contractors implicated in a payment scandal under former President Akufo-Addo’s administration. During a stop in the Eastern Region as part of his “Thank You” tour, Mahama disclosed that an audit by the Auditor-General had exposed cases of contractors receiving unjustified multiple payments.
“Contractors found to have received unjustified multiple payments will face legal consequences. The discrepancies revealed by the audit will be addressed strictly according to the law,” Mahama stated.
According to the president, only those contractors who are cleared by the audit process will be allowed to return to their project sites to complete abandoned road works.
Mahama used the occasion to reaffirm his government’s commitment to revamping Ghana’s infrastructure sector, with a strong focus on completing projects abandoned by the previous administration. He assured chiefs and residents that essential road networks would be completed as part of his broader infrastructure recovery plan.
As part of his administration’s “Big Push” development agenda, Mahama also announced a major new project, the construction of a modern bridge over the Afram River.
He explained that the bridge would significantly improve transportation in the Eastern Region, especially for farmers who depend on the route to send their produce to market.
“We are committed to finishing what was left undone and bringing new development that will transform lives, especially for those in our farming communities,” he assured.
