President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, stating that due process will be followed in the case of a man known as Cyborg, who was arrested for firing a gun into the air during a meet-up with Nigerian music star Asake.

Cyborg was taken into custody on December 29 after a video surfaced showing him celebratorily discharging a firearm during the encounter, an act that raised public safety concerns.

Following the arrest, Asake later sought to intervene during a brief interaction with President Mahama, appealing for leniency on Cyborg’s behalf. The singer explained that the gun was fired in a moment of excitement and not with malicious intent.

The exchange occurred on December 30 at the sidelines of the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra, where Asake and members of his entourage greeted the President.

Recalling the incident, President Mahama asked humorously, “He’s the one the guy fired the gun for?” When those present confirmed, he added, “And he ended up in trouble,” drawing laughter from the gathering.

Asake then apologised on Cyborg’s behalf and pleaded for mercy. While acknowledging the request, President Mahama remained firm, stressing that the law must take its course. “Don’t worry about it. The law is the law,” the President stated.

Asake arrived in Ghana earlier in the week and thrilled fans with a performance at the AfroFuture Festival, one of the country’s biggest music events.
