Mahama promised Franklin Cudjoe the NDC’s running mate slot but handed it over to Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Owner of Wontumi media, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has revealed that former President Mahama deceived Franklin Cudjoe, by promising to make him his running mate.
According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Mahama promised the CEO of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education a running mate slot but turned out to deceive him.
“Mahama promised Franklin Cudjoe running mate slot. This same Franklin Cudjoe is on record to have insulted Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and never apologized to him.
Later he sent a petition to the respected King to step in an resolve issues surrounding the Electoral Commissions decision to compile a new register”, the NPP Chairman known as Chairman Wontumi said in an interview which was monitored by Wontumionline.com.
Policy think tank IMANI Africa and the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) once petitioned Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Traditional Council to intervene in the EC’s decision to compile a new voter register.
They had argued that the EC’s decision to compile a new voter register was creating tension in the country, hence the need for them to intervene.
They wanted Otumfuo and the council to step in early by calling the EC and the agitated political parties to reach a compromise decision to avert any future disturbances.
According to them, allowing the process to continue would disenfranchise several Ghanaian voters.
However last Monday, former President Mahama named his running mate for 2020 general elections leaving out Franklin Cudjoe.
Mr. Mahama named former Education Minister Naana Opoku-Agyeman, bringing to an end months of speculation concerning John Mahama’s choice for a running mate.
He made the announcement on twitter and wrote: “The @OfficialNDCGh, this afternoon, unanimously, endorsed my nomination of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as my Running Mate for the December 2020 election. She is God-fearing, a distinguished scholar, a conscientious public servant & a role model”.
