President John Dramani Mahama has declared that his administration’s Resetting Ghana Agenda is already producing tangible results, signalling economic stabilisation and renewed investor confidence.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, he said Ghana is reopening for business after decisive measures to restore fiscal discipline and credibility.
“Today, I can say with confidence: Ghana is back, it’s working again, and Ghana is open for business,” he told lawmakers.
Reflecting on the start of his term, President Mahama described inheriting an economy weighed down by unsustainable debt, high inflation, currency depreciation, and a severe cost-of-living crisis.
He said these challenges demanded urgent action to prevent further hardship for citizens.
“Recovery would not come easily, but I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians,” he stated.
The President outlined his government’s strategy, emphasising fiscal discipline and structural reform as the foundation for recovery.
Measures introduced include tighter expenditure controls, improved reporting of government payables, and a comprehensive audit of financial commitments made in 2024.
According to him, these steps were necessary to restore order to public finances and rebuild confidence in economic management.
“We resolved to choose discipline over waste, reform over excuses, and stability over speculation,” he said.
President Mahama noted that the reforms are already yielding significant economic improvements, describing the outcomes as among the most notable in decades.
He said the improving fundamentals and clearer path to sustained growth demonstrate that the recovery plan is working.
As Ghana approaches its 69th Independence Anniversary, the President said citizens have renewed reason for optimism.
He emphasised that the Resetting Ghana Agenda and the Accra Reset initiative are laying the groundwork for a more resilient and prosperous nation.
“We are restoring hope by delivering on our promises and proving that good leadership makes a measurable difference in our people’s lives,” he concluded.
