NDC supporters assault Hawa Koomson at Ablekuma North polling station

NPP Communications Team member Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah has condemned President John Mahama for his silence following the recent assault on Minister Hawa Koomson by alleged NDC supporters during the Ablekuma North election rerun.

The incident occurred amid chaotic scenes at a polling station, where a violent confrontation broke out between political supporters. In the heat of the clash, Hawa Koomson was physically assaulted by individuals believed to be aligned with the opposition NDC.

Gyewu-Appiah expressed disappointment over the lack of public condemnation from President Mahama, questioning his leadership and commitment to peaceful democratic processes. He argued that the former president’s silence sends the wrong signal, especially when a female minister is targeted during a national electoral exercise.

The incident has fueled calls for political parties to demonstrate stronger commitments to nonviolence and for leaders to take swift, visible stands when tensions escalate. Security agencies have been urged to intensify monitoring at future electoral events to prevent similar outbreaks.

President Mahama has yet to issue a statement regarding the assault.
