President John Dramani Mahama is on official visits to Japan and Singapore this week as part of ongoing efforts to deepen Ghana’s bilateral relations, expand trade and investment, and strengthen cooperation on shared development priorities.
In Japan, President Mahama is taking part in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX). He is scheduled to deliver a presentation during a plenary session on the theme “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment” and to address a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, where he will highlight Ghana’s investment prospects and the Resetting Ghana agenda.
The President is also holding bilateral talks with senior Japanese leaders, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), top officials of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. These discussions are focused on boosting trade, enhancing investment, and exploring cooperation in infrastructure and technical development.
The second leg of the visit takes President Mahama to Singapore for a three-day working programme. While there, he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and take part in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will also deliver an address at an investment forum to present Ghana’s reform agenda and engage directly with Singapore-based investors.
According to the Presidency, the visits are designed to attract investment, expand market access for Ghanaian goods and services, and foster partnerships in infrastructure, finance, technology, and human capital development.
President Mahama and his delegation, which includes senior government officials and business leaders, departed Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
