AdubianewsA video making rounds on social media has shown the intense moment a young man was captured by traditional executioners in Kumasi after violating the Kumasi night ban.
The incident happened during the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, when Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had issued strict instructions for all residents to remain indoors throughout the night.
In the trending footage, the man was seen running helter-skelter as executioners gave him a hot chase before he was eventually caught. Witnesses revealed that his failure to obey the order left him at the mercy of the traditional guards.
The directive, according to Otumfuo, was meant to preserve order, ensure solemnity, and uphold Ashanti customs as the queen mother was being laid to rest. Residents were repeatedly cautioned that anyone who defied the ban would face consequences.
Many Ghanaians have reacted to the video online, with some describing the man’s actions as careless and disrespectful, while others debated the strictness of the punishment.
The burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III has been marked by sacred cultural rites and traditions, with the night ban being one of the strongest measures taken to honor her memory.
