Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says he is fully prepared to substantiate the allegations he has levelled against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng. His lawyer, Marcellinus Biah, has confirmed that Kpebu intends to back every claim with evidence.
Tensions escalated last week after Kpebu was arrested at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) while assisting with investigations into corruption allegations he had filed against Agyebeng. A disagreement with officers led to his detention, though he was later granted bail after meeting the necessary conditions.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, Kpebu announced that he has compiled more than 15 allegations against the Special Prosecutor and is determined to pursue them through formal legal channels. He argued that his arrest highlights deeper concerns surrounding the professionalism and competence of the OSP under Agyebeng’s leadership.
His lawyer echoed the sentiment during an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, December 4, stressing that Kpebu is fully aware of the legal consequences of making unsubstantiated claims.
“Martin is a lawyer and understands the consequences of making false allegations. I strongly believe he has adequate evidence to back the statements he has made,” Biah said.
According to him, Kpebu will submit a formal petition calling for the removal of the Special Prosecutor. The petition is expected to be ready by Monday.
Biah explained that Kpebu’s main concern is that the OSP cannot realistically receive complaints against its own head, making a petition to the president the appropriate pathway for initiating action.
“Martin has been clear from the start that he is ready to prove his case,” he added.
