NPP 3rd Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take action against President John Mahama, Sam George, and Sammy Gyamfi if hate speech and insults are considered criminal offenses in Ghana.
He accused former President Mahama of repeatedly inciting division through his utterances. Osman argued that Mahama has on several occasions made statements that could be classified as hate speech, especially against the Akyem and Asante people.
The NPP Vice Chairman cited an instance where Mahama was captured in a video describing the people of Akyem as “Sakawa.” At the time, the country was being led by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who hails from Akyem. Osman stressed that such remarks were not only offensive but also targeted the President directly.
He further recalled other controversial comments by Mahama, including describing Ghanaians as having “short memories” and branding the people of the Ashanti Kingdom as ungrateful.
According to Osman, these utterances only fueled resentment and created unnecessary tension in the political space.
Alhaji Masawudu Osman concluded by insisting that if insults and hate speech are punishable by law, then Mahama, Sam George, and Sammy Gyamfi must equally face arrest. He urged Ghanaians to rise in defense of former President Akufo-Addo, who he believes was unfairly targeted by such divisive remarks.
