In a heartfelt conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva on her cooking show, Mercy’s Menu, the beloved actress revealed she underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland after doctors discovered a concerning lump.
The scare occurred shortly after the birth of her youngest child, during what she described as one of the most difficult moments in her life.
“It was a major scare,” Mercy shared. “I had to have my thyroid removed, and afterward, the doctors told me I’d be on medication for life.”
Not Cancer, But a Wake-Up Call
While Mercy referred to the ordeal as a “cancer scare,” she clarified that she was never diagnosed with cancer. Instead, the concern over a potentially cancerous thyroid lump prompted swift medical action.
“It wasn’t cancer, but the fear and anxiety it brought to me and my family were very real,” she explained.

The experience has led to significant lifestyle changes. Mercy now lives with the reality of lifelong medication and routine medical checks to manage her thyroid function. She emphasized the importance of early detection and being attentive to one’s health.
“I’ve learned to take nothing for granted. Health is everything,” she added.
