A heartbreaking case in the Ashanti Region has taken a hopeful turn after Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, intervened to support a 13-year-old girl who became pregnant following a gang rape.

The girl, Nafisatu Adwoa, from a village near Boamang, shared her story on Oyerepa Afutuo, a popular social intervention programme on Oyerepa TV. She revealed that after being rejected by her parents, she was left homeless, without antenatal care, and lacking the basic necessities of life despite being in the final weeks of pregnancy.

According to police, five teenagers were implicated in the gang rape, with two already arrested as investigations continue.

MP Steps in With Swift Intervention

For eight months, Nafisatu endured hardship, surviving without medical care or proper nutrition. Her plight moved viewers to tears and highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by children in rural areas.

Upon learning of her case, Dr. Agyemang arranged for her immediate admission to the South Suntreso Hospital in Kumasi, where he pledged to cover all medical expenses until she safely delivers her baby.

The MP also provided essential supplies, including soap, towels, sponges, and clothing, while committing to ensuring she is fed three times daily throughout her hospital stay. Beyond immediate relief, he is collaborating with the Department of Social Welfare to secure counselling, post-delivery care, and a pathway to education or vocational training for Nafisatu and her child.

“Leadership Is About Compassion”

Speaking on his intervention, Dr. Agyemang stressed that leadership must be defined by empathy and responsibility. “We must not stand idle while children suffer neglect in such vulnerable circumstances. Protecting and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable in our society is our duty as leaders and as human beings,” he said.

Community members, child advocates, and viewers of Oyerepa Afutuo have commended his swift action, describing it as a powerful example of compassionate leadership. They also welcomed the continued efforts by police to bring all perpetrators of the crime to justice.

What began as a story of pain, rejection, and despair has now been reshaped into one of hope. For Nafisatu, the intervention of the Abuakwa South MP has not only secured her safe delivery but also opened the door to a brighter future for her and her unborn child.
