Former Member of Parliament for Tema West and ex-Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has shed light on her decision to back Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 flagbearership contest.
Her declaration marks a shift from her previous support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the party’s last presidential primary. Speaking to journalists after casting her vote, Naa Torshie Addo stressed that political loyalty is not static and must respond to changing realities.
According to her, every election cycle presents a unique political environment that demands fresh evaluation. She explained that past choices do not automatically determine future decisions, as circumstances, leadership qualities, and party performance evolve over time.
She noted that the outcome of the party’s governance experience and the need to reposition the NPP ahead of the 2028 general election played a significant role in her decision. In her view, these factors pointed her toward Kennedy Agyapong as the candidate best suited to lead the party forward.
Naa Torshie Addo concluded that her support is driven solely by what she believes will strengthen the NPP as it rebuilds and prepares for the next electoral battle.
