The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested 163 individuals in connection with 109 drug-related cases across Ghana in 2025, according to official figures released by the Commission.

The disclosure was made by PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, during an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, December 19.

Mr Opoku Amoah explained that the number of arrests exceeds the total number of cases because multiple suspects are often linked to a single investigation. “In terms of arrests, we have about 163 people involved in the 109 cases we are handling,” he stated.

He revealed that nearly 50 of the cases have already been filed in court, with proceedings ongoing at various levels of the judicial system. According to him, the Commission is optimistic that all outstanding cases will be concluded by next year.

Providing an update on outcomes, Mr Opoku Amoah disclosed that five convictions have so far been secured, with convicted persons currently serving prison sentences ranging from six years to longer terms. He said the convictions reflect NACOC’s firm resolve to combat drug trafficking and related offences.

“Currently, at different levels of the courts, we have close to 50 cases that are still pending. We hope that by next year, all these cases will be concluded. So far, we have secured five convictions, and the offenders are serving prison sentences ranging from six years to longer terms,” he said.

Comparing the 2025 figures with the previous year, the NACOC spokesperson noted a decline in arrests, pointing out that fewer than 100 suspects were apprehended during the same period last year. He attributed the reduction to changes in enforcement dynamics and improvements in investigative strategies.
