Concerns over the New Patriotic Party’s readiness for the 2028 general elections have resurfaced, with presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah declaring that the party is headed for a decisive defeat regardless of who emerges as its flagbearer.
Appearing on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, she argued that the NPP has not fully recovered from the shock of its 2024 electoral loss, a situation she believes continues to undermine the party’s ability to organise and refocus.
Rather than pursuing the presidency in the next election cycle, Nana Yaa Jantuah suggested the opposition should adopt a more cautious approach by concentrating on parliamentary contests while using the period to rebuild its internal structures.
She explained that the lingering effects of the last election have left the party distracted and fragmented, making it difficult to present a compelling national alternative to voters in 2028.
Turning attention to governance under the current administration, she noted that economic conditions are gradually improving, pointing specifically to declining fuel prices. To illustrate her point, she shared that she recently spent about GH¢200 to fill her car with fuel — something she described as unthinkable in recent years.
Nana Yaa Jantuah further praised President John Mahama’s leadership, citing his recent recognition with the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award in West Africa as evidence of growing appreciation for his performance both locally and internationally.
In her assessment, the combination of an improving economic climate and ongoing internal challenges within the NPP makes the party’s prospects in the 2028 elections bleak, reinforcing her belief that a major electoral defeat is inevitable.
