A Ghanaian has donated an amount of $1 million towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
A member of the Board of Trustees of the Cathedral, Victor Kusi Boateng who revealed this in an interview GhanaNewsPage.Com monitored on Kumasi-based Hello FM said the Ghanaian who prefers to remain anonymous did that as an act of faith.
He opined further that the Ghanaian was of the strongest conviction that the National Cathedral is another important project being executed by this government and ought to be supported by all.
“A Ghanaian has donated $1million towards the construction of the National Cathedral, yes a Ghanaian did that…,” he said.
According to him, this Ghanaian who he did not name is not known to be rich.
“After he donated that amount of moeny, officials of the GRA went in to investigate him but found no wrong…,” he said.
Prophet Kusi Boateng also said that another Ghanaian donated GHC2 million for the same puprpose the very day the President announced that he was going to champion the construction of a National Cathedral.
On the raising of funds for the edifice, Prophet Kusi Boateng said the President and the Government of Ghana only offered 10% of the sum.
Ghanaians took the Government to the cleaners when the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta announced a shortcode for Ghanaians to donate at least GHC100 towards the construction of the project which sits on 15 acres land at Ridge in Accra.
“Work on the National Cathedral is progressing speedily and following the program of the contractor. The National Cathedral is expected to be officially commissioned on March 6, 2024. Upon completion, the National Cathedral will provide a space for formal religious activities of state and symbolize the enormous contribution of faith to nation-building.”
He went on “this state and church partnership envisaged by the president to develop the National Cathedral is on course. An initiative; the GHC100 a month also dubbed “Ketoa Biaa Nsua” will be launched by the trustees of the National Cathedral on August 12, 2021, to give as many Ghanaians as possible the opportunity to be part of the history of the National Cathedral.”
He detailed “the aim of the club is to raise one million Ghanaians who would give GHC100 a month for the construction of the national cathedral.”
“A special shortcode 979 has been developed for this purpose as we look forward to Mr speaker and all the members of this august house join in the GHc100/a month.”
