Over the last 42 hours, at least two people have died, while four others are injured after some protesting youth of Ejura Sekyedumase clashed with the military and police on Tuesday morning, since the death of the 40-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed, aka Kaaka, the youth say they are willing to sacrifice their lives until they get justice for him.

However, the President’s deafening silence on these negative developments, despite his viral comments following George Floyd’s murder, as well as the silence of the National Peace Council, Ghana, on what they term as worsening security issues is sickening and these netizens, have taken to the groups Facebook, to register their displeasure.

Interestingly, the National Peace Council, Ghana may have given them the best opportunity to doo same, when in a post shared online, they were having high level meetings at the expensive and luxurious Aqua Safari Resort in Ada, thanks to sponsorship by international organizations, it names.

In the post on Facebook, they wrote that:

“Currently going at Aqua Safari Resort in Ada is the opening ceremony of a #National Stakeholders’ Dialogue session aimed at building consensus among stakeholders to strengthen mechanisms for greater nation cohesion, political tolerance, peace building and nation-building.

The three-day dialogue is a National Peace Council – Commonwealth Secretariat sponsored. Ministry of the Interior, Ghana, The Commonwealth, UNDP Ghana” it sated.

The harsh comments following this post, have included the following:

Couldn’t you have held this session in a town hall or any church’s conference center? Ad3n a Aqua Safari! The God you worship is watching you from wherever you proclaim s/he sits.”

Richard Kofi Agor writes “If there’s a God we all serve, may He reward you all in kinds and in deeds for your HYPOCRITICAL LIFESTYLES. God in His own Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding will eliminate you all one after the other. HYPOCRITES!!”

Dagba Philip Wonder Kofi writes “Just for your notice when you decide to wake up. Bunch of fucking old hypocrites. Keep looking elsewhere and it will get to us all.”

The Former President John Dramani Mahama, have however broken his silence yesterday, when the news broke, when speaking as a high standing statesman in the country, called on the President and also tasked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to immediately find ways to de-escalate the tension at Ejura in the Ashanti Region following the killing of a social activist and two protestors in the area.

His statement released on his website and shared on his verified Facebook page, read that:

“I add my voice to calls for calm following the shooting to death of two persons and the injury to many in Ejura today, following the murder of youth activist Ibrahim ‘Kaaka’ Mohammed. I have just seen a video of the firing of live ammunition into a crowd by persons wearing military attire, after the burial of the murdered youth activist.

I urgently call on President Nana Akufo-Addo to initiate an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Ejura. There must be a very thorough investigation of both the murder of the youth activist and the security rules of engagement, which resulted in the shooting to death of the two others.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the Ejura community.” John Dramani Mahama , the Former President of Ghana wrote.
