NDC supporter praises Mahama for pro-farmer cocoa initiatives

A supporter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken to social media to shower praise on the Mahama-led administration over its recent pro-farmer policies, particularly in the cocoa sector.

In a passionate post, the supporter highlighted several key interventions introduced by the government, including:

  • Cocoa farmers receive 70% of the Free-On-Board (FOB) price

  • Provision of free fertiliser and agrochemicals

  • Tertiary-level scholarships for children of cocoa farmers

  • Introduction of transparent weighing systems to curb cheating at rural buying centres

“Aban papa aba. Transparency is his hallmark,” the post read, celebrating the transparency and farmer-focused approach of the administration.

The supporter’s comments come amid mixed reactions following the announcement of a 62.58% increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/26 season, raising it from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne. The new rate aligns with President Mahama’s pledge to ensure farmers receive 70% of the FOB value.

While some farmers have expressed disappointment with the price, citing rising costs of living, others — including loyal NDC followers- have applauded the broader policy package that includes input subsidies, scholarships, and tighter enforcement against illegal weighing practices.
