He was given a preliminary charge of preparations to commit a crime to wit murder and abetment to commit a crime, to wit, murder, but has been granted bail.
Paul Ofori Amoah was in the grips of police in the Central Region over an alleged plot to assassinate Agona West MP and Gender Minister, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
Mr. Ofori-Amuah is said to have admitted issuing two cheques found with the suspects in their hotel room in Swedru, a town in the Central Region where they were arrested on October 17.
Second assassination plot
Meanwhile, another set of criminals have been picked up by the Swedru Divisional Police Command over another attempt to assassinate the Minister.
The suspected criminals, six in number, were arrested at a hotel they were lodging at, under the pretext of doing galamsey in the area.
Intelligence gathered by the Security in Swedru emerged that the suspects, John Toko, 26; Emmanuel Mensah, 25; Elvis Kwabena Poku, 36; Kwabena Poku, 48; Wahab Saeed, 26, and Kweku Amponsah, 26, were using a Corolla taxi cab with the registration number (AS 4534-19) to trail the MP on the Agona Otsenkorang road.
This was when the MP was on a campaign tour from that town and its adjoining villages, a source at the Divisional Police Command reported.
The source said the MP and her campaign team suspected the behavior of the occupants in the taxi cab after realizing that they were being trailed and reported the matter to the Police.
The source added that the police mounted surveillance on them at the hotel till they arrived at 9:30 pm on Wednesday and Toko attempted to escape on seeing the police, but were eventually arrested.
