Nkawkaw residents gather at the scene after man caught cutting newly built bridge

A man has found himself in serious trouble in Nkawkaw after he was caught attempting to vandalize a newly constructed bridge just a day after it was completed by residents.

Eyewitnesses say the suspect was seen using a hacksaw to cut through a metallic component of the bridge, raising immediate alarm among locals who had spent time and resources building the vital structure.

The bridge, which was completed less than 24 hours earlier, had been constructed through community effort to ease movement across the area. The man’s attempt to damage it sparked anger among residents, many of whom were still celebrating the project’s completion.

According to bystanders, he was caught in the act and prevented from escaping as a group of residents confronted him. It remains unclear whether he intended to steal the metal for scrap or had other motives.

The incident has since been reported to the Nkawkaw police, who are expected to take further action.

Many residents have expressed shock and disappointment over the incident, with some calling for stricter surveillance and penalties to deter acts of vandalism against community infrastructure.
