The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has taken another step toward strengthening Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry by hosting a stakeholder forum in Accra on Monday, August 25.

The event was organised to review and refine the Draft NPA Bill before it moves to Parliament for consideration.

The meeting, which was convened under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, was chaired by Minister John Abdulai Jinapor, who was joined by his deputy Richard Gyan-Mensah and other ministry officials.

Their participation underscored the government’s commitment to engaging industry players in shaping effective legislation.

According to the NPA, the proposed bill seeks to improve the sector’s operational and regulatory structures. It is expected to introduce stronger measures that promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability while ensuring a more robust framework for downstream petroleum activities.

Industry stakeholders present at the forum were given the opportunity to share their perspectives, offering insights that will guide the finalisation of the legislation. The discussions focused on aligning the draft bill with both industry best practices and Ghana’s long-term energy policy goals.

The Authority explained that the engagement reflects its commitment to inclusive policymaking, ensuring that industry concerns are addressed before the draft bill is submitted to Parliament. Once passed, the bill is anticipated to mark a significant milestone in Ghana’s petroleum governance landscape.
